ISLAMABAD: A wave of excitement is building across Pakistan as May 2026 is shaping up to deliver an unusually generous holiday calendar, potentially offering up to 11 public holidays and multiple long weekends.
The month kicks off with Labour Day on May 1, which falls on a Friday. This timing automatically creates a three-day weekend, giving workers an early opportunity to relax or travel.
The bigger highlight, however, comes later in the month. Preliminary projections suggest a cluster of holidays around Eid al-Adha, expected to fall on May 27, though the exact date will depend on the official moon sighting announcement by the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
Adding to the break, Youm-e-Takbeer on May 28 is already a confirmed public holiday. If an additional day off is observed on May 29, and employees opt to take leave on May 26, the result could be a rare six-day uninterrupted holiday stretch.
Officials note that government offices, schools, and many private businesses are expected to close during these periods, creating ideal conditions for domestic travel, tourism spikes, and family gatherings.
While final confirmation hinges on lunar observations, the anticipated holiday clusters are already fueling plans among citizens eager to make the most of an unusually relaxed May.
