Pakistan’s federal government has increased petrol and high-speed diesel prices under its fortnightly fuel price review, with revised rates taking effect from midnight.
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s federal government has announced a fresh increase in the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel, adding to transportation and fuel costs for consumers nationwide. The revised prices came into effect from 12:00 a.m. following an official notification issued late Thursday.
According to the notification, the price of petrol has been increased by Rs4.40 per litre, raising the new rate to Rs331.52 per litre. Meanwhile, the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) has gone up by Rs3.62 per litre, taking its new retail price to Rs378.66 per litre.
The revised rates are effective immediately from midnight and will remain in force until the next fortnightly review unless revised earlier.
The government reviews petroleum prices every two weeks based on fluctuations in international crude oil prices, exchange rate movements, import costs, and other relevant economic factors. These adjustments are made following recommendations prepared by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).
Higher fuel prices typically affect transportation expenses, agricultural operations, and the cost of goods, as diesel is widely used in freight transport, heavy machinery, and farming activities. Petrol price increases also have a direct impact on private motorists and commuting costs across the country.
