Pakistan has reduced petrol and high-speed diesel prices from Oct. 20, 2026, following a government review of petroleum rates, according to an OGRA notification.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has reduced petrol and high-speed diesel prices, offering some relief to consumers as the revised rates take effect Oct. 20, 2026, according to a notification issued by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).

Under the revised prices, petrol has become cheaper by Rs5.16 per litre, bringing its new price to Rs381.14 per litre. The price of high-speed diesel has been reduced by Rs7.69 per litre to Rs389.27.

The government announced the revised rates on Oct. 19, with the new prices effective from Oct. 20.

The reduction is expected to provide some relief to motorists, commuters and businesses facing high fuel costs. However, the broader impact will depend on how transport operators and businesses respond to the lower petroleum prices.

Petrol is widely used by private car owners and motorcyclists, making changes in its price significant for household transportation expenses. High-speed diesel, meanwhile, is an important fuel for transport vehicles and commercial activities.

A reduction in diesel prices can help lower the cost of transporting goods across the country. Freight expenses are a component of supply-chain costs, meaning changes in diesel rates can influence the prices of goods and services.

However, the extent to which the latest reduction will affect public transport fares, freight charges and the prices of essential commodities remains uncertain. Any resulting savings will depend on operational costs, market conditions and whether transport operators and businesses pass on the reductions to consumers.

OGRA issued the notification detailing the revised petroleum prices following the government’s review of fuel rates.

Petroleum prices remain an important concern for consumers because of their direct impact on commuting expenses, household budgets and business operating costs. Changes in fuel prices can also influence the cost of moving agricultural produce, industrial goods and other commodities between cities.

Under the new rates effective Oct. 20, petrol will cost Rs381.14 per litre, while high-speed diesel will be available at Rs389.27 per litre.
