Pakistan has increased petrol and high-speed diesel prices from August 14 following the latest review under the petroleum pricing mechanism.
ISLAMABAD: Petrol and high-speed diesel prices have increased in Pakistan following the federal government’s latest review of petroleum product rates, adding to fuel costs for consumers from Friday.
According to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division of the Ministry of Energy, the price of petrol has been increased by 45 paisa per litre, while high-speed diesel (HSD) has risen by Rs1.16 per litre.
Following the revision, petrol will now be sold at Rs325.43 per litre, up from Rs324.98. The price of high-speed diesel has increased from Rs382.79 to Rs383.95 per litre.
The latest rates were finalized after the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) reviewed petroleum prices in accordance with the government’s pricing framework. The mechanism takes into account movements in international oil markets along with other relevant costs and factors affecting domestic fuel prices.
The adjustment comes after the previous fortnightly review, when the government increased the HSD price by 54 paisa per litre but reduced petrol by 94 paisa per litre.
Petroleum prices are periodically revised in Pakistan to reflect changes in international energy markets and domestic pricing factors. Such changes can have a wider impact on transportation costs, freight charges and the prices of goods and services because petrol and diesel remain key components of the country’s transport and logistics network.
The new fuel rates will remain applicable from August 14, with future prices subject to subsequent government reviews and changes in international market conditions.
