Information Minister Attaullah Tarar says Pakistan has paid a heavy human and economic cost in the war on terror and condemns the alleged use of water as a weapon.
ISLAMABAD: Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said Pakistan has sacrificed 100,000 lives and suffered economic losses of more than $150 billion in the war against terrorism.
Tarar made the remarks while criticizing what he described as India’s use of alleged cross-border terrorism claims to defend its “illegal actions.”
The federal minister said Pakistan had paid a heavy price in its fight against terrorism, both in terms of human lives and economic losses.
“Pakistan has sacrificed 100,000 lives and suffered losses of more than $150 billion in the war against terrorism,” Tarar said.
He also accused India of using the pretext of cross-border terrorism to justify what he termed illegal measures against Pakistan.
Tarar further condemned what he described as an attempt to use water as a weapon, calling the move “highly condemnable.”
His remarks come amid longstanding tensions between Pakistan and India over security issues and water resources. Pakistan has repeatedly raised concerns over actions affecting the flow and management of water under the Indus Waters framework.
Tarar’s statement emphasized Pakistan’s position that its sacrifices in the fight against terrorism should be recognized while rejecting allegations or justifications that, according to him, are being used to defend actions against the country.
