Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian says the current moment offers a major opportunity for Iran-US negotiations while maintaining Tehran’s firm position toward Washington.
TEHRAN: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said the current circumstances could represent the “best time” for Iran and the United States to reach an agreement, while stressing that Tehran’s broader policy toward Washington remains unchanged.
Speaking to media representatives in Tehran on Sunday, Pezeshkian said developments had pushed the United States toward negotiations and reconciliation with Iran. He presented the shift as a sign of diplomatic progress for Tehran.
His remarks come as tensions between Iran and the United States remain high and international efforts continue to explore diplomatic options for reducing the confrontation.
Pezeshkian accused Washington of failing to honor understandings associated with an Islamabad memorandum and points jointly prepared by Iran and Oman. He said the failure to implement those commitments had contributed to Iran’s decision to respond.
The Iranian president also said Tehran had formed a special team to manage the crisis and that the group was continuing its work.
“We are hopeful that Iran will move forward with dignity, determination and pride,” Pezeshkian said, emphasizing that Tehran would continue defending what it considers its national interests.
At the same time, Pezeshkian maintained a sharply critical stance toward Washington, describing the United States as a “criminal” and “colonial” power. He said Iran’s fundamental policy toward the United States had not changed despite the possibility of negotiations.
The president also warned that the United States and Israel could attempt to exploit divisions inside Iran after military pressure failed to force Tehran into submission. He urged Iranians to remain united and vigilant against efforts that could deepen internal tensions.
Pezeshkian’s comments highlight the difficult balance in Iran’s current position: Tehran appears prepared to consider diplomacy while refusing to abandon its longstanding objections to U.S. policies.
