PM Shehbaz Sharif directs officials to develop Daanish University as a modern institution offering talented students from disadvantaged and middle-income families access to international-standard education.
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed officials to develop the proposed Daanish University as a model institution providing talented students from financially disadvantaged and middle-income families with access to international-standard education and professional training.
Shehbaz chaired a review meeting on the university’s development in Islamabad on Thursday, where officials briefed him on the proposed academic structure, faculty recruitment plans and campus design.
The prime minister said the institution should not simply replicate the conventional university model and directed authorities to establish a distinct, modern education system focused on academic excellence.
According to the briefing, a key objective of Daanish University is to provide high-quality educational opportunities to academically capable students who may otherwise be unable to afford education at leading institutions.
Shehbaz directed officials to pay particular attention to outreach programs to ensure students from economically weaker and middle-income families are informed about the university and its opportunities.
He also ordered authorities to prepare detailed project plans, including a construction timeline, and submit them within two weeks.
Officials told the meeting that the university plans to recruit internationally recognized faculty members holding degrees and academic experience from leading universities around the world.
Efforts are also in the final stages to engage a prominent U.S. college to support the university’s academic and teaching systems. The meeting was briefed on recent discussions concerning the proposed collaboration and the faculty structure under consideration.
The proposed institution is also expected to feature a state-of-the-art campus designed according to international standards. Officials said the bidding process for construction would begin soon and presented the proposed campus design and development plan to the prime minister.
The government’s stated vision is for Daanish University to focus on merit, opportunity and quality while providing talented students from less-privileged backgrounds with access to globally relevant education and professional training.
The meeting was attended by Federal Ministers Dr. Musadik Masood Malik and Attaullah Tarar, Chairman Prime Minister’s Youth Programme Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan, members of the Daanish University Board and senior officials.
