A major weather alert has been issued across National Disaster Management Authority as a strong western disturbance approaches, threatening multiple regions of Pakistan with heavy rain, hailstorms, and potential flooding between June 16 and 20.
According to the National Emergency Operations Center under NDMA, the current forecast aligns closely with earlier seasonal assessments. Authorities have been placed on high alert to ensure timely coordination and preparedness across provinces and districts.
The system is expected to impact Islamabad, Punjab regions including Rawalpindi, Murree, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, and others, as well as large parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, Sindh, and Balochistan. Strong winds, thunderstorms, and intermittent heavy rainfall are likely across these areas.
Officials warn that rising temperatures combined with rainfall may trigger flash flooding in northern areas, particularly in glacial regions of Gilgit-Baltistan and upper valleys of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. There is also an increased risk of glacial lake outburst floods in vulnerable zones, alongside possible landslides and road closures in mountainous terrain.
