Lahore:(Click Pakistan WebDesk)- The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has suspended the membership of 50 members of provincial assemblies, including Punjab’s Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat, for failing to submit their asset declarations within the prescribed deadline.
According to sources, the suspended members include Lahore-based Punjab Assembly lawmakers Malik Ghulam Habib Awan and Imtiaz Mahmood. The ECP had directed all members of parliament and provincial assemblies to submit details of their assets and liabilities, including those of their spouses and dependent children, by January 15.
However, after the deadline expired and the required declarations were not submitted, the Election Commission issued orders for the immediate suspension of their membership. The action was taken under the relevant provisions of the Election Act, which make the annual submission of asset declarations mandatory.

The ECP clarified that the suspension will remain in effect until the concerned members submit their asset statements. During this period, they will not be allowed to exercise any parliamentary privileges, including attending assembly sessions, participating in legislative proceedings, or voting.
The Election Commission emphasized that the requirement to file asset declarations is aimed at ensuring transparency, accountability, and public trust in elected representatives. It also warned that strict action will continue against lawmakers who fail to comply with legal obligations in the future.
