Maryam Nawaz chairs Punjab cabinet meeting as province prepares to approve the new financial year budget with a focus on public relief and development.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday chaired the 35th meeting of the provincial cabinet, where the proposed budget for the new financial year 2026-27 was presented for approval. The meeting came with a strong message that Punjab’s development agenda and public welfare initiatives would continue despite financial pressures.
Addressing the cabinet, Maryam Nawaz expressed gratitude for presenting her third budget and said that serving the people remained her top priority. She highlighted that Punjab had contributed the highest share to the federal government in defence and other expenditures.
The chief minister said that despite a reduction in the province’s Federal Finance Commission share, the Punjab government remained committed to providing relief to citizens through its own resources.
She added that fulfilling the promise of public relief was so important that she continued holding video link meetings even during illness to ensure government work remained uninterrupted.
Maryam Nawaz emphasized that the journey of public service and welfare would continue with the same commitment, adding that there would be no compromise on Punjab’s development and progress.
