A 20-kilogram flour bag now costs Rs3,300 in Quetta against the district administration’s official rate of Rs2,640, prompting residents to demand price enforcement.

QUETTA: The price of a 20-kilogram flour bag has increased by Rs100 in Quetta, reaching Rs3,300 and widening the gap between market prices and the official rate set by the district administration.

According to market sources, a 20kg bag of flour is now selling for Rs3,300 in the provincial capital, up from Rs3,200. The increase adds to the financial pressure on residents already dealing with rising living costs.

The district administration has fixed the official price of a 20kg flour bag at Rs2,640. However, the prevailing market price is Rs660 higher than the notified rate, highlighting the difference between the government-prescribed price and what consumers are reportedly paying.

The latest increase has prompted residents to call on the district administration to take practical measures to prevent overcharging and ensure that flour is available at government-approved rates.

Citizens have urged the authorities to strengthen market monitoring and take action against sellers who charge more than the prescribed prices. They say effective enforcement of official price lists is necessary to protect consumers from additional financial pressure.

Residents have also called for closer monitoring of bakeries and enforcement of the prescribed prices of roti, a staple food for many households. They have stressed that action should cover both flour sales and bakery prices to help prevent further increases in everyday food expenses.

The price difference has become a key concern for consumers seeking relief from the rising cost of essential commodities. Residents have emphasized that issuing official price notifications alone is insufficient unless retailers comply with the rates and authorities ensure enforcement.

They have called on the administration to take concrete steps to improve compliance with official prices and help ensure that essential food items remain affordable.
