QUETTA: (Roshan Khan) A wave of terrorist attacks in Balochistan has caused the city of Quetta to be placed under high alert by the authorities who suspended mobile internet services in the city, security officials said.
Security sources claimed that there were at least 12 acts of terror in the province a day prior and this led to increased security in the provincial capital. A number of entry and exit countries in Quetta were blocked and security forces deployed at strategic places to ensure the law and order.
The security staff remained on patrol throughout the city especially on high profile residential neighborhoods. In the search efforts that were still going on, dozens of suspected people were arrested to be questioned.
In Quetta and some other Balochistan, mobile internet services were still down on a second straight day. The suspension was reported to have been done after the attacks as part of security measures. Nevertheless, the inconvenience brought by the disruption has been very overwhelming to the residents, businesses and journalists as most of them depend on internet connectivity in their daily operations.
Security officials claimed that they had managed to deter attacks on 12 places which they termed as Fitna-e-Hindustan. The militants involved in counterterrorism operations were killed 92. Authorities indicated that 15 security agents and 18 civilians died in the process of protecting the country.
The officials indicated that until the situation is completely stable, security operations would proceed.
