Sanctioned Chinese Tanker Crosses Hormuz Despite US Blockade

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Maritime data reveals enforcement gaps as sanctioned vessel exits Gulf amid rising tensions

Shipping analytics from LSEG, MarineTraffic and Kpler, cited by Reuters, identified the vessel, Rich Starry, as the first tanker to pass through the narrow waterway and exit the Gulf since the blockade was enforced. The development underscores possible gaps in monitoring and enforcement in one of the world’s most vital energy corridors.

The tanker is owned by Shanghai Xuanrun Shipping Co Ltd, a company previously sanctioned by Washington for its involvement in trade with Iran. Attempts to obtain comment from the firm were unsuccessful.

Tracking data shows the medium-range tanker is carrying approximately 250,000 barrels of methanol. The cargo was loaded at Hamriyah port in the United Arab Emirates before the vessel began its transit through the Gulf.

The Chinese-owned and crewed ship made the journey amid heightened regional tensions and increased scrutiny over maritime movements linked to sanctioned entities. The incident raises questions about the effectiveness of the blockade and the challenges of enforcing restrictions in heavily trafficked international waters.
