Pakistan head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed says he was unaware of any PCB complaint or plans to delay the team’s return to the field.
Pakistan head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed has dismissed reports that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) protested to the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) over an interview involving former Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan’s sons during the Lord’s Test.
Qasim Khan and Sulaiman Khan were interviewed by former England captain Michael Atherton on the opening day of the Test. The interview subsequently attracted attention during the ongoing match.
A cricket website reported that the PCB had expressed displeasure over the interview and that there had been some hesitation within the Pakistan camp about returning to the field after the lunch break.
However, Sarfaraz said he was unaware of any such development when questioned during a press conference on the second day of the Test.
Asked whether the PCB had lodged a complaint with the ECB regarding the interview, Sarfaraz said he did not know about any such complaint.
The Pakistan coach was also asked about reports that the team had considered refusing to return to the field following the lunch interval because of the interview.
Sarfaraz rejected the suggestion, saying no such situation had occurred. He said the team had been preparing to return to the field as normal after lunch.
The comments effectively downplayed reports of a dispute between the PCB and the ECB over the broadcast interview.
