Islamabad: Advocate Salman Safdar, appointed by the Supreme Court as a friend of the court, has reported that PTI founder Imran Khan’s health is “fine” following a nearly three-hour meeting at Adiala Jail. Safdar was tasked with submitting a report on the living conditions and facilities available to the former prime minister, currently incarcerated.
The Supreme Court bench, led by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, emphasized that Safdar must be given full access and respect during his visit. “Our friend of the court will be allowed access to the PTI founder without obstruction,” the chief justice remarked, adding that jail staff would assist if needed.
During the hearing, Safdar raised concerns after a visual inspection regarding Imran Khan’s health, but the Chief Justice instructed that his report focus on living conditions, to be submitted in chambers by Wednesday. The court had previously rejected PTI counsel Latif Khosa’s urgent requests to meet Imran Khan immediately, citing procedural requirements and multiple pending appeals.
The SC also ordered a three-member bench to hear appeals against the acquittal of Imran Khan and Shah Mahmood Qureshi in the cipher case. Jail authorities coordinated Safdar’s meeting, informing medical staff, nutritionists, and security personnel assigned to monitor the PTI founder.
This fresh evaluation comes as Imran Khan is now held in a different facility, ensuring updated verification of his welfare under judicial supervision.
