Two accused have been sentenced to one year in prison and fined Rs50,000 each in a forest-related case in Lower South Waziristan.
WANA: An Additional Assistant Commissioner and Forest Magistrate in Lower South Waziristan has sentenced two accused to one year in prison and fined each of them Rs50,000 in a forest-related case, in what authorities described as the first such verdict in the district’s history.
Forest Magistrate Rizwan Barki announced the verdict against Habibullah alias Khable and Draz Khan in the case involving violations of forest laws.
Following the court’s decision, both convicted men were handed over to police and subsequently transferred to jail to serve their sentences.
A third accused, Dost Muhammad alias Mamaday, remains absconding. Authorities said efforts are underway to arrest him and bring him before the law.
The administration said illegal cutting of forests and violations of forest laws would not be tolerated. Officials also said legal action would continue against other individuals involved in the case, while efforts to apprehend the absconding suspect remain ongoing.
The verdict marks a significant development in the enforcement of forest laws in Lower South Waziristan, with authorities reiterating their stated commitment to preventing illegal activities that threaten forest resources.
