Karachi witnessed severe rainfall accompanied by strong winds on Wednesday, resulting in 12 deaths and multiple injuries in various incidents across the city. Areas affected include North Nazimabad North Karachi Surjani F.B. Area Saddar Clifton Cantonment Railway Colony Delhi Colony Gulshan e Iqbal Gulshan e Jamal and Garden.
The storms caused power outages in several neighborhoods, including Moinabad Alamgir Society, Shadman Town 14A, Gulshan e Iqbal and Defence Phases 1 and 2 disrupting daily life. The Meteorological Department recorded wind speeds of 90 km/h on Shahrah e Faisal and 97 km/h in Mauripur.
Falling trees and damaged structures contributed to casualties. Near Clifton Driving License Branch, a tree fell, trapping two individuals. A wall collapse in Baldia Moach Goth killed 11 people and injured three others, while a lightning strike near Shah Latif Morghi Khana Stop claimed one life. In Qaidabad Majid Colony, a wall collapse injured three.
Rescue teams and police are conducting ongoing search and relief operations at affected sites. Officials warned that although no significant rainfall is expected overnight storms and showers may return tomorrow afternoon. Meteorologists predict continued rainfall in Karachi and across Sindh from March 24-27 with chances of hail in some areas and light showers on Eid.
