A cloudburst-triggered landslide destroyed sections of the Neelum Valley road, leaving two vehicles from former AJK Prime Minister Tanveer Ilyas’ convoy unaccounted for, while a separate stone-pelting incident targeted the convoy of Shah Ghulam Qadir.
MUZAFFARABAD: Former Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Tanveer Ilyas remained safe after his convoy was caught in a massive landslide while returning from Neelum Valley, according to sources close to him.
The incident occurred after a cloudburst triggered heavy landslides in the mountainous region, washing away large sections of the road and disrupting traffic. Initial reports said two vehicles traveling with Tanveer Ilyas’ convoy remain unaccounted for following the landslide. Rescue and search efforts are expected to continue as authorities assess the situation.
Communication with the affected area has also been severely hampered because mobile network coverage is unavailable across parts of the mountainous route, making it difficult to establish contact with those stranded.
Sources confirmed that Tanveer Ilyas was not injured in the incident. However, reports alleged that the Neelum district administration left the convoy on the difficult Sargan Valley route before the disaster struck. Authorities have not yet publicly responded to these claims.
In a separate development, the convoy of Shah Ghulam Qadir, which was traveling behind Tanveer Ilyas’ convoy, reportedly came under stone-pelting by unidentified individuals. The attack damaged vehicle windows and left one person injured. The injured individual received immediate first aid, according to initial reports.
