President Asif Ali Zardari highlights longstanding friendship and growing cooperation with Kyrgyzstan as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visits Bishkek.
ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has extended warm greetings to Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov and the people of Kyrgyzstan on the country’s Independence Day, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.
In his message, Zardari said Pakistan attached great importance to its close and friendly ties with Kyrgyzstan, describing the relationship as rooted in shared history, cultural links, mutual trust and growing cooperation.
The president recalled his visit to Kyrgyzstan in July, saying it brought back memories of his earlier visit to the country in 1995. He said the latest visit provided an opportunity to further strengthen relations between Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan.
Zardari said discussions during the visits had reaffirmed both countries’ commitment to expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
He expressed his desire to continue working closely with President Zhaparov to deepen bilateral cooperation and strengthen ties for the mutual benefit of Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan and their peoples.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has left for Bishkek on a three-day official visit to Kyrgyzstan at the invitation of President Sadyr Zhaparov.
During his visit, the prime minister will participate in the meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Council of Heads of State and the SCO Plus Summit. He will also assume Pakistan’s chairmanship of the SCO Council of Heads of State for the next year.
On the sidelines of the SCO engagements, Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with leaders of participating countries.
He will also attend the opening ceremony of the World Nomad Games, which is being held in Bishkek.
