Security forces recover weapons as operation deals major blow to militant network in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Tank: Two highly wanted militants were killed during an intelligence-based operation conducted by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in the Sheikh Utar area of Tank district, officials said Thursday.
The operation, carried out within the jurisdiction of Gomal police station, led to an intense exchange of gunfire between militants and CTD personnel that lasted nearly 40 minutes, according to security sources.
Following a search operation, the deceased militants were identified as Imdadullah and Tauqeer, both linked to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Mushtaq group. Other accomplices managed to escape under the cover of fire, prompting a follow-up search in surrounding areas.
CTD officials stated that the killed militants were involved in multiple high-profile crimes, including targeted killings of police personnel, kidnappings, attacks using improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and assaults on judicial convoys.
Security forces recovered two Kalashnikov rifles, six magazines, and a cache of ammunition from the site of the encounter.
Authorities described the operation as a significant success, saying it has dealt a major blow to the militant network operating in the region. They added that further operations would continue to ensure public safety and eliminate remaining threats.
