Passengers receive immediate relief as traffic wardens enforce official fare rules across the district.
NOWSHERA: Traffic wardens in Nowshera launched a sweeping crackdown against public transporters overcharging passengers returning from their hometowns after Eid al-Fitr, officials said Thursday.
The operation, carried out under directives from District Police Officer Ahmed Shah and supervised by DSP Traffic Muhammad Naseem Khan, resulted in fines issued to 112 vehicles for fare violations.
Authorities said special checkpoints were established across key points in the district, where transport vehicles were thoroughly inspected. Passengers were directly questioned about fares, and in multiple cases where overcharging was confirmed, the excess amount was immediately refunded on the spot.
Traffic Incharge Naushad Ali Khan led field teams enforcing compliance with officially approved fare lists. Officials described the campaign as both “effective and necessary” amid increased travel demand following the holiday.
“This operation is aimed at protecting the public from exploitation,” Khan said, adding that no transporter would be allowed to overcharge citizens.
The crackdown provided immediate relief to passengers while sending a clear warning to transport operators to adhere strictly to government-approved fares. Authorities emphasized that legal action against violators will continue without discrimination.
Nowshera Traffic Police also urged the public to report any incidents of overcharging promptly, ensuring swift action and accountability moving forward.
