Health City, medical colleges, AI education and minority support schemes under review by Sohail Afridi
PESHAWAR: Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi chaired a meeting of the Planning and Development Department to review proposed projects for the Annual Development Program (ADP) 2026–27, focusing on health, education and public service delivery.
Officials said major health initiatives under consideration include a Tribal Medical College, a nursing college, upgradation of primary and secondary hospitals, a Health City project, new blocks for Medical Teaching Institutions (MTIs), breast cancer screening centers, medical complexes and a 1,000-bed general hospital. The meeting also agreed in principle to establish drug testing laboratories.
In the education sector, the government plans to upgrade schools, improve facilities and construct 20,000 additional classrooms. Revival of non-functional IT labs, establishment of science labs and introduction of an artificial intelligence curriculum in computer science were also discussed. Scholarships for students in merged districts and construction of hostels for teachers were highlighted as key priorities.
The meeting further reviewed proposals to restore deteriorating record rooms to ensure protection of land records. The chief minister emphasized that providing services at citizens’ doorsteps remains a central goal of the government.
Participants also discussed a proposed scheme aimed at promoting economic empowerment of minority communities in merged districts, along with improvements in educational and religious institutions, including provision of free books for seminary students and support for mosques.
The chief minister directed authorities to finalize feasible projects aligned with public welfare and ensure timely implementation under the upcoming development program.
