Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has indicated a major shift in the country’s defense policy, emphasizing reduced reliance on the United States and increased domestic military investment.
Speaking at the Liberal Party’s national convention in Montreal, Carney highlighted national sovereignty and defense self-reliance as key pillars of his political strategy. He noted that the era when 70 cents of every defense dollar was spent in the US has come to an end.
Carney stressed that the global landscape is rapidly changing, and Canada can no longer depend entirely on past alliances. He reaffirmed plans to strengthen local defense capabilities and boost investment in Canada’s own military infrastructure.
