Authorities confiscate adulterated dairy products and halt production at illegal khoya unit.
BAHAWALNAGAR: The Punjab Food Authority has intensified its crackdown against adulterated food products, carrying out a major operation in Fort Abbas where a unit producing fake khoya was shut down.
According to officials, the food safety team, led by the Deputy Director Operations, raided a production unit located in Kisan Colony. During the operation, authorities seized and destroyed approximately 600 liters of adulterated milk and 50 kilograms of hazardous khoya prepared using substandard and harmful ingredients.
The team also confiscated a large quantity of equipment and raw materials used in the illegal process. The unit’s production activities were halted until further notice, with officials directing the owners to comply with food safety regulations before any potential reopening.
Laboratory analysis confirmed that the khoya contained significant adulteration, including the mixing of ghee and other sub standard substances that rendered the product unsafe for human consumption. Officials said such practices pose serious health risks to consumers and will not be tolerated.
A spokesperson for the Punjab Food Authority stated that the crackdown is being carried out under directives from the provincial government to eliminate food fraud and ensure public health protection. Authorities emphasized that strict action will continue against those involved in the production and sale of adulterated food items.
The operation is part of an ongoing campaign to monitor food production units and enforce hygiene standards across Punjab, with particular focus on dairy products widely consumed by the public.
Residents have been urged to remain cautious and report any suspicious food production activities to relevant authorities.
