Pakistan Goes Cashless for Driving Licenses, A Major Shift Drivers Didn’t See Coming

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

New cashless payment system enables citizens to pay driving license fees via mobile wallets and banking apps, reducing time, costs, and inconvenience.

National Highways and Motorway Police has introduced a modern cashless payment system for driving license fees, marking a significant step toward digitizing public services in Pakistan.

The initiative was formally launched on Thursday at the Islamabad Driving Licensing Authority by DIG Operations Asghar Ali, according to an official spokesperson. The development allows citizens to pay their driving license fees through digital platforms, eliminating the need for physical cash transactions.

Under the new system, applicants can now conveniently pay fees using popular mobile financial services such as Easypaisa and JazzCash, as well as through various banking applications. Officials say this move is expected to streamline the payment process and improve overall service delivery.

The introduction of cashless payments will relieve applicants from visiting banks, significantly reducing waiting times and logistical hassles. Authorities emphasized that the system is designed to enhance efficiency and transparency in the licensing process.

In collaboration with the National Bank of Pakistan, QR code-enabled machines have been installed at the Islamabad Driving Licensing Authority. Similar facilities are also being extended to licensing authorities in Sheikhupura and Quetta to ensure wider accessibility.

Officials noted that the digital payment system will help citizens save both time and additional expenses, while also supporting the government’s broader push toward digital transformation.

The launch ceremony was attended by senior officials from the Motorway Police and the National Bank, highlighting the importance of inter-institutional collaboration in modernizing public service delivery.

The spokesperson described the initiative as a key milestone in aligning public services with modern technological standards and improving citizen convenience across the country.
