Police launch detailed investigation after arrest of undocumented man who allegedly claimed foreign nationality during questioning in Rawalpindi’s Westridge area.
A routine police check in Rawalpindi’s Westridge area has escalated into a security-sensitive investigation after authorities detained a man who allegedly claimed to be an Indian national while unable to produce valid identification documents.
According to police officials, the incident took place near Chowhar Chowk when officers noticed a suspicious individual moving toward the Dhamaial area. The man reportedly changed direction abruptly upon seeing the police, prompting officers to intercept him for routine questioning.
During the initial inquiry, the suspect failed to present any legal identification or travel documents. Police sources said the individual identified himself as “Diler Mushtaq, son of Mushtaq Ahmed Sufi,” and further claimed to be a resident of India, raising immediate concerns among law enforcement personnel.
A search of the individual led to the recovery of two ballpoint pens and 1,750 Pakistani rupees in cash. Officials noted that while the items were not incriminating on their own, the absence of documentation and his statements prompted further action.
Police have registered a case against the suspect on behalf of the state, stating that preliminary findings suggest he may have entered Pakistan illegally and had been residing in the country without authorization. Authorities emphasized that all claims made by the suspect are under verification.
Investigators are now focusing on determining the suspect’s origin, route of entry, and any possible links or contacts within Pakistan. Security agencies are also being involved to assess whether the case has broader implications beyond an individual violation.
The investigation remains ongoing, and officials have stated that further details will be released as evidence is verified and cross-checked.
