Gilgit-Baltistan Gets Digital Security Boost as PM Inaugurates PERU Force and Safe City System

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Gilgit: Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif formally inaugurated the Safe City Project and the newly established PERU Force during his official visit to Gilgit-Baltistan on Thursday, signaling the federal government’s renewed focus on security modernization and public safety in the strategically important northern region.

The inauguration ceremony highlighted the government’s efforts to strengthen surveillance, emergency response capabilities, and law enforcement coordination across Gilgit-Baltistan. The Safe City Project is expected to introduce advanced monitoring systems, digital policing mechanisms, and enhanced communication infrastructure aimed at improving crime prevention and rapid response operations.

During the event, Inspector General of Police Gilgit-Baltistan, Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan, briefed the prime minister on the operational framework of the PERU Force and the overall Safe City initiative. Officials shared details regarding the force’s objectives, technical capabilities, and its role in strengthening security management in sensitive and high-traffic areas of the region.

The newly launched PERU Force is being viewed as a specialized security and emergency response unit designed to support law enforcement agencies through modern tactics, coordination systems, and rapid deployment capabilities. Authorities believe the initiative will enhance public confidence and improve the overall security environment in Gilgit-Baltistan.

The Safe City Project also reflects Pakistan’s broader push toward smart policing and technology-driven governance. Similar initiatives in other parts of the country have focused on surveillance cameras, integrated command centers, and digital monitoring systems to improve urban security and public administration.

The launch comes at a time when Gilgit-Baltistan continues to gain strategic, economic, and tourism importance, increasing the need for stronger civic infrastructure and modern security arrangements. Government officials expressed hope that the project would contribute to safer public spaces, improved law enforcement efficiency, and better protection for residents and tourists alike.
