A wave of intense missile and drone strikes has once again pushed the war between Russia and Ukraine into a dangerous new phase, as the capital city Kyiv, Ukraine and southern hub Odesa, Ukraine were rocked by powerful explosions overnight.
According to foreign media reports, hypersonic and ballistic missiles were used in the coordinated assault, triggering air raid sirens across multiple regions. Residents in Kyiv reported continuous blasts that sent shockwaves through residential districts, forcing thousands to rush toward underground metro stations and reinforced shelters for safety.
Authorities said several buildings sustained damage during the strikes, though official confirmation regarding casualties and injuries remains unclear. Emergency services were deployed in multiple districts as rescue and assessment operations continued amid ongoing security concerns.
Russian state-linked narratives claimed the strikes were carried out in response to an alleged Ukrainian attack on a school hostel in the Luhansk region, where Moscow says 21 people were killed and 63 injured. Russian leadership reportedly instructed military commanders to prepare a “firm response” following the incident.
However, Ukrainian officials strongly rejected these claims, accusing Moscow of using unverified allegations as justification for intensified attacks on civilian areas. Kyiv has urged the international community to take immediate notice of what it describes as escalating aggression targeting populated cities.
As tensions continue to rise, the latest strikes underscore the widening gap between both sides’ narratives and the growing humanitarian concerns across the conflict zone, with civilians once again bearing the heaviest burden of the ongoing war.
