ISLAMABAD: Millions of Pakistani households are set to face higher energy costs after the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) announced an increase in liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices for June, raising the cost of a standard domestic cylinder by more than Rs58.
According to an official notification issued by the regulator, LPG prices have been increased by Rs4.95 per kilogram. The new consumer price has been fixed at Rs308.76 per kg for June, reflecting a rise from the previous month’s rate.
As a result of the revision, the price of an 11.8-kilogram domestic LPG cylinder has increased by Rs58.51, taking the new price to Rs3,643.41. The revised rates came into effect on June 1st 2026.
The latest increase is expected to add further pressure on household budgets already strained by rising utility bills and inflation. LPG remains a critical source of cooking and heating fuel for millions of families across Pakistan, particularly in areas where access to natural gas infrastructure is limited.
Rural communities, remote regions, and mountainous areas rely heavily on LPG due to the absence of widespread piped gas networks. The fuel is also commonly used in small towns where natural gas connections are either unavailable or insufficient.
Energy analysts note that changes in LPG prices can have a significant impact on household spending, especially among lower-income families that depend on the fuel for daily cooking and heating needs.
OGRA revises LPG prices on a monthly basis, with rates generally linked to international market trends, exchange rate fluctuations, and benchmark pricing mechanisms, including the Saudi Aramco Contract Price.
While the regulator did not immediately provide a detailed explanation for the latest adjustment, market observers say global energy price movements and currency-related factors often influence monthly revisions.
The increase comes at a time when consumers across the country are closely monitoring fuel and utility costs amid broader concerns over inflation and the rising cost of living.
