A brave forest firefighter loses his life after sustaining critical burns while battling a wildfire in Kahuta, prompting provincial recognition and financial support for his family.
A tragic end has been reported from Rawalpindi after a courageous firefighter, Asjad Mehmood, died from severe burn injuries sustained during a forest fire operation in the Kahuta range earlier this month. The incident has drawn widespread sorrow across forestry departments and local communities.
Officials confirmed that Mehmood was deployed on June 2 in the Simbel Aheil sub-division when a rapidly spreading wildfire broke out. While attempting to control the blaze and protect nearby forest resources, he suffered critical burns and was rushed for emergency medical treatment. Despite continued care, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
His colleagues and department officials described him as a committed professional who displayed exceptional bravery and dedication while performing his duties under extreme conditions. His efforts were aimed at safeguarding both human lives and valuable natural resources.
In recognition of his sacrifice, the Chief Minister of Punjab announced financial assistance of Rs 10 million for the bereaved family. The announcement also included condolences and prayers for the elevation of the deceased’s ranks.
Mehmood’s sacrifice has been widely acknowledged as a symbol of courage within the forestry and emergency response community, leaving behind a legacy of service and devotion to duty.
