ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad district administration has accelerated its anti-begging campaign, resulting in the detention of 41 beggars during the past 24 hours as authorities continue efforts to curb professional begging across the federal capital.
The operations were carried out on the instructions of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Islamabad, with Assistant Commissioners conducting late-night raids in both rural and urban areas. Officials said the campaign is part of an ongoing drive aimed at addressing public complaints and maintaining order in key commercial and residential zones.
According to the district administration, three individuals were detained from Tramri, while 12 were taken into custody from the F-8 sector. Four beggars were shifted to police custody from Humak Chowk. Additional operations led to the detention of 10 individuals from F-10, nine from G-9, and three from I-8.
Authorities stated that those detained were transferred to local police stations and lockups as part of legal proceedings under the anti-begging campaign.
The DC Islamabad has directed field officers to further intensify daily operations and ensure strict enforcement across the city. Officials emphasized that the campaign will continue in the coming days with a focus on areas where professional begging has become a recurring issue.
The district administration also appealed to residents to cooperate with authorities and support efforts aimed at discouraging organized begging activities in the capital.
