Security forces recover weapons, suicide jacket and Afghan identity documents during operation in Sheikh Banda area.
WEB DESK: Security forces killed two militants during an intelligence-based operation in the Sheikh Banda area of Mohmand district on June 4, according to military and security officials, who said one of the deceased was identified as an Afghan national.
The operation was carried out following intelligence reports regarding the presence of militants in the area. Officials said both suspects were neutralized during the action, while a cache of weapons and other materials was recovered from the site.
According to the military’s media wing, ISPR, security personnel recovered weapons, foreign currency, a suicide jacket and identification documents from the militants. The recovered items are being examined as part of an ongoing investigation aimed at identifying possible links to wider militant networks.
Officials said one of the deceased carried an Afghan identity card identifying him as Umar Bilal, a resident of Khost province in Afghanistan. Investigators are reviewing the recovered documents and other evidence to establish further details about his activities and affiliations.
Security authorities said the findings reinforce concerns about militant groups operating in border regions and exploiting difficult terrain to facilitate movement and conduct attacks against security forces and civilians.
The incident has once again highlighted Pakistan’s longstanding concerns regarding cross-border militancy. Officials said militant organizations continue attempting to use remote border areas as operational corridors despite ongoing counterterrorism efforts.
Pakistan has repeatedly called on Afghan authorities to prevent their territory from being used for militant activities targeting Pakistan. Security officials reiterated that intelligence-based operations would continue across affected regions to eliminate militant threats and dismantle support networks.
