Dubai-Bound Family Stopped at Karachi Airport as Customs Seize $55,000 in Undeclared Cash

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Customs officials seized $55,000 and Rs950,000 in cash from six members of the same family at Karachi airport after they allegedly failed to declare currency exceeding the permitted limit.

KARACHI: Pakistan Customs intercepted six members of the same family at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport and recovered $55,000 in US currency along with Rs950,000 in Pakistani cash before they boarded a flight to Dubai.

According to customs officials, the passengers were carrying foreign currency beyond the limit permitted under State Bank of Pakistan regulations. Authorities said the money had not been properly declared before departure, prompting immediate action under the Customs Act, 1969.

The recovery was made during routine airport screening, where customs personnel discovered the undeclared cash before the passengers could leave the country. Officials confirmed that all six individuals belonged to the same family but did not disclose their identities or the intended purpose of carrying the money.

Authorities emphasized that travelers leaving Pakistan must comply with foreign currency regulations, including mandatory declaration requirements for amounts exceeding the permissible limit. Failure to do so can result in the seizure of funds and legal proceedings under applicable customs laws.

The latest seizure highlights the continued efforts by Pakistan Customs to curb currency smuggling through international airports. Officials said surveillance and passenger screening remain a key part of protecting the country’s financial system and preventing the illegal transfer of foreign exchange.
