PM Shehbaz Makes Fresh Offer to Opposition as Defence Budget Sparks Heated Debate

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif urged political parties to unite on a Charter of Economy and Charter of Democracy while defending increased defence spending amid ongoing security challenges and renewed development commitments for Balochistan.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif renewed his call for political reconciliation on Saturday, urging opposition parties to join hands with the government in pursuing a Charter of Economy and a Charter of Democracy aimed at ensuring long-term political and economic stability in Pakistan.

Addressing the National Assembly during the budget session, the premier defended the increase in defence spending, citing persistent security threats in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said security forces and the armed forces continued to make significant sacrifices in the fight against terrorism and stressed that any complacency in tackling militancy would be unacceptable.

Paying tribute to fallen personnel, Sharif highlighted recent losses, including victims of a helicopter crash and 22 soldiers who were martyred while defending the country. He described the nation’s martyrs as heroes whose sacrifices remain invaluable.

The prime minister emphasized that political differences should not hinder national progress. He said the government viewed the opposition as partners in strengthening Pakistan rather than adversaries and reiterated his willingness to engage in dialogue on key national issues.

Sharif also underscored the importance of balanced provincial development, noting that Balochistan’s share under the National Finance Commission Award had doubled. He highlighted major projects, including the Gwadar-Chaman Highway and solar energy initiatives for farmers, as part of efforts to boost economic growth and connectivity in the province.

During the budget debate, opposition leaders also voiced their views. Mahmood Khan Achakzai stressed adherence to constitutional and parliamentary principles, while Barrister Gohar called for political equality and argued that easing political restrictions would contribute to greater stability and economic progress.
