Pakistan is observing the 27th martyrdom anniversary of Captain Karnal Sher Khan, paying tribute to one of the nation’s most revered military heroes whose courage during the 1999 Kargil conflict continues to inspire generations.
Captain Karnal Sher Khan embraced martyrdom on July 5, 1999, while leading his troops against enemy forces on the Kargil front. Despite fierce fighting and overwhelming challenges, he remained steadfast in defending his position, displaying exceptional bravery, leadership and unwavering determination until making the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
In recognition of his extraordinary gallantry, he was posthumously awarded the Nishan-e-Haider, Pakistan’s highest military honour for battlefield valour. His remarkable service and devotion have secured him a permanent place among the country’s greatest military heroes.
A wreath-laying ceremony is being held at his mausoleum, where a smartly turned-out contingent of the Pakistan Army will present a guard of honour.
