Fresh monsoon activity is expected to trigger thunderstorms, gusty winds and widespread rainfall across northern and central Pakistan over the next few hours.
Pakistan’s weather authorities have issued a fresh alert warning of strong winds, dust storms and thunderstorms accompanied by rainfall in several parts of the country over the coming hours as a new monsoon system remains active across northern regions.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the weather system is expected to affect Murree, Galiyat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Kohistan, Swat and surrounding areas within the next one to four hours, bringing rain and thunderstorms.
The advisory also forecasts gusty winds and rain for Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujranwala, Sheikhupura and Lahore. Similar weather conditions are expected in Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Faisalabad, Okara, Sahiwal, Pakpattan and nearby districts.
Meanwhile, heavy rainfall has already lashed Lahore, Gujranwala and several other cities in Punjab following intense thunderstorm activity, providing relief from the heat and making the weather significantly cooler. Rain was also recorded in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
The PMD has advised residents to remain cautious during periods of strong winds and thunderstorms, as localized urban flooding, reduced visibility and disruptions to traffic may occur in low-lying areas. Authorities have also indicated that additional showers are likely in several regions during the next few hours.
