Actor Imran Khan, singer Arijit Singh and veteran actress Zeenat Aman are among the latest public figures to express solidarity with demonstrators demanding reforms in the country’s education system.
The protests, centered around alleged examination irregularities and proposed education reforms, have drawn large crowds at Jantar Mantar and other locations across the capital. Demonstrators have accused authorities of failing to address their concerns, while reports of police action against protesters have further escalated tensions.
Playback singer Arijit Singh criticized the reported use of force in a post on X, writing that authorities should be ashamed for targeting students and warning that such actions would not be forgotten.
Imran Khan also ended a prolonged period of public silence with a detailed statement on Instagram. Reacting to footage of police using teargas and force against protesters, he questioned how young people seeking accountability could be met with violence instead of meaningful engagement. He argued that students deserved to be heard and expressed full solidarity with their movement.
Veteran actress Zeenat Aman highlighted the deteriorating health of environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk, whose hunger strike has continued alongside the student demonstrations. She urged the public not to ignore voices calling for reform, warning that indifference toward students and social activists could have lasting consequences.
Support for the protests has continued to grow across India’s entertainment industry. Public figures including Diljit Dosanjh, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Shabana Azmi, Pooja Bhatt, Huma Qureshi and Ali Fazal have also called for an end to violence and greater transparency in addressing students’ concerns.
