DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A Bomb Disposal Squad officer was injured after an explosion struck the malkhana (evidence store) inside the Police Lines in Dera Ismail Khan on Thursday, causing extensive structural damage and triggering a comprehensive police investigation.
According to police officials, the blast occurred inside the evidence store where confiscated explosive materials and other recovered evidence are kept. The powerful explosion partially collapsed the building’s roof and one of its walls, prompting an immediate emergency response.
Rescue personnel and police officers rushed to the scene and shifted the injured Bomb Disposal Squad officer to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities did not immediately release details about his condition.
Preliminary findings suggest the explosion was caused by the accidental detonation of hand grenades stored inside the malkhana. However, police emphasized that the exact cause has not yet been established and will only be confirmed after a detailed forensic investigation.
