Azerbaijan Envoy Bids Farewell as PM Shehbaz Praises Stronger Pakistan Ties

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif commended Azerbaijan’s outgoing ambassador for strengthening bilateral ties and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to expanding its strategic partnership with Baku.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday praised Azerbaijan’s outgoing Ambassador Khazar Farhadov for his significant contribution to strengthening the longstanding brotherly relations between Pakistan and Azerbaijan during a farewell meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch also attended the meeting.

The prime minister acknowledged Ambassador Farhadov’s sincere efforts to enhance cooperation between the two countries across a wide range of sectors, including political, trade, economic, defense, cultural and people-to-people exchanges. He also appreciated the ambassador’s role in facilitating the launch of direct flights between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, describing it as an important step toward improving connectivity and bilateral engagement.

Recalling his multiple visits to Azerbaijan over the past two and a half years, Prime Minister Shehbaz also fondly remembered Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s visit to Pakistan in July 2024. He conveyed his best wishes to President Aliyev and reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to further strengthening its strategic partnership with Azerbaijan.

The prime minister expressed confidence that the strong foundation established during Ambassador Farhadov’s tenure would continue to support deeper cooperation and broader engagement between the two friendly nations in the years ahead. He also wished the ambassador success in his future diplomatic assignments.

Ambassador Khazar Farhadov thanked the Government of Pakistan and the Pakistani people for the warmth, hospitality and cooperation extended to him throughout his posting. He described his assignment in Pakistan as one of the most memorable chapters of his diplomatic career and reiterated Azerbaijan’s commitment to further expanding its strategic partnership with Pakistan.

During the meeting, the ambassador also presented the prime minister with a book based on his family’s experiences of living in Pakistan, reflecting the close people-to-people ties between the two countries.
