PORT OF SPAIN: Pakistan produced a disciplined bowling display to dismiss West Indies for 344 in the first innings of the second Test in Port of Spain, with off-spinner Sajid Khan leading the attack with an impressive four-wicket haul.
After winning the toss, West Indies elected to bat first and built a competitive total through determined contributions from several middle-order batters. Justin Greaves top-scored with 73, while captain Roston Chase added a composed 70 to steady the innings. Brandon King chipped in with 46, while Shai Hope and Amir Jangoo scored 29 and 26 respectively.
Pakistan’s bowlers fought back consistently after the hosts made a solid start. Sajid Khan proved the standout performer, using sharp turn and disciplined line and length to claim four crucial wickets and prevent West Indies from posting an even bigger total.
He received strong support from the rest of the bowling attack. Ubaid Shah, Mohammad Ali and Ali Usman claimed two wickets each, ensuring the home side were bowled out for 344 before they could fully capitalize on favorable batting conditions.
At the toss, Pakistan captain Babar Azam said his side would also have chosen to bat first had they won the toss, adding that the visitors intended to play positive and attacking cricket. West Indies skipper Roston Chase said his team retained the same playing XI after taking a 1-0 lead in the two-match series and hoped to make the most of home conditions.
Pakistan now face a crucial first-innings response as they attempt to level the series and avoid defeat. West Indies, meanwhile, will be aiming to build on their advantage and complete a series victory on home soil.
With the series on the line, the second Test remains finely balanced as Pakistan begin their reply after restricting the hosts to 344.
