KARACHI: Pakistan’s Nasir Iqbal kept the country’s title hopes alive after producing a commanding performance to reach the final of the PN Fleet Club Open International Squash Championship in Karachi on Monday.
Playing at the Pakistan Navy Roshan Khan-Jahangir Khan Squash Complex, Nasir outclassed Egypt’s Yasee El Shafey in the semifinal, securing a convincing straight-games victory in just 24 minutes. The Pakistani star dominated throughout the contest, winning 11-5, 11-7, 11-5 to earn his place in the championship match.
The second semifinal saw Pakistan’s Asim Khan fall short against Egypt’s Salman Khalil, who claimed a 3-1 victory to advance to the final. Asim fought hard but was unable to overturn the Egyptian’s advantage, ending Pakistan’s hopes of an all-Pakistani title clash.
The PN Fleet Club Open International Squash Championship carries a total prize purse of $41,000 and is organized by the Sindh Squash Association. The tournament has attracted leading international players and continues to provide valuable competitive opportunities for Pakistan’s squash professionals.
The championship final is scheduled for Tuesday at 4:00 p.m., with Nasir Iqbal set to face Salman Khalil in a highly anticipated showdown for the title.
