Karachi Traffic Police has issued an extensive diversion plan, road closure schedule, and heavy vehicle restrictions to facilitate the central Chehlum procession under heightened security.
KARACHI: The Karachi Traffic Police has unveiled a comprehensive traffic management plan for the central Chehlum procession on Tuesday, advising residents to use alternative routes as several key roads will remain closed throughout the religious observance.
According to officials, the main Chehlum procession will begin at 9:00 a.m. from Nishtar Park and follow its traditional route. To ensure the safety of mourners and maintain security, M.A. Jinnah Road will remain closed to regular traffic for the duration of the procession.
Traffic authorities have introduced multiple diversion routes to reduce congestion. Vehicles traveling from Saddar to Tower will be redirected via Preedy Street and I.I. Chundrigar Road, while motorists approaching from Shahrah-e-Quaideen will be diverted through Kashmir Road and People’s Chowrangi.
Commuters arriving from Korangi, Landhi, and the National Highway will be routed through Rashid Minhas Road and the Super Highway. Traffic from Nazimabad will move via Lasbela, Garden, and Nishtar Road, while vehicles from Liaquatabad will be diverted at Lasbela Chowk toward Nazimabad No. 10.
Motorists traveling from Hassan Square and Shahrah-e-Faisal have been advised to follow designated diversion routes through Society Light Signal, Teen Hatti, and Sher Shah Suri Road. Drivers using Jamshed Road toward Guru Mandir should instead use Bahadur Yar Jang Road or Soldier Bazaar Road.
Traffic police also announced that heavy vehicles will be barred from entering Karachi from 10:00 a.m. until the procession concludes. Parking along the procession route will be strictly prohibited, and vehicles violating the restrictions will be towed.
