Police have registered a case over the fatal Harley Street Road collision and are investigating CCTV footage and other available evidence to trace the unidentified driver.
A citizen was killed in a hit-and-run accident on Harley Street Road in Rawalpindi, while the driver of the vehicle involved remains at large two days after the incident.
According to police and the registered first information report (FIR), the accident occurred at around 3:45 p.m. on Sept. 19 in front of Dr. A.Q. College on Harley Street Road. The victim, identified as Kifayat Hussain Kiani, was traveling from the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) toward Bakra Mandi when a Mehran car allegedly struck him from behind.
Kiani sustained serious injuries in the collision and was shifted to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital Rawalpindi by Rescue 1122. He later died from his injuries.
Following the incident, police moved the victim’s body to the DHQ Hospital morgue and completed the required legal formalities for a post-mortem examination.
The FIR identifies the vehicle involved as a Mehran car bearing registration number 411-YBR. Police said the unidentified driver fled the scene along with the vehicle after the collision.
A case was registered at the R.A. Bazaar Police Station on a complaint filed by the victim’s nephew, Ali Abbas. Police registered the case against the unidentified driver under Sections 279 and 322 of the Pakistan Penal Code and launched an investigation.
The victim’s family said CCTV footage related to the incident is available and allegedly shows the vehicle involved in the accident along with its registration plate. The family has urged police to use the footage and other available evidence to identify and arrest the driver responsible for the fatal collision.
Asad Kani Advocate, founding chairman of PWF, also expressed concern over the incident and called on senior police officials to accelerate the investigation and ensure action against the person responsible in accordance with the law.
Kani said his uncle, Kifayat Hussain Kiani, died in the accident and that the family was deeply shocked by his death. He urged police to take immediate notice of the matter, examine the CCTV footage and all other available evidence, and proceed against the responsible driver under the law.
Police said the case has been registered and the investigation is underway. Officers are examining the circumstances of the accident and working to trace and arrest the driver allegedly involved in the fatal hit-and-run.
