Traffic authorities advise travelers from Islamabad, Rawalpindi and other districts to avoid the M-1 and follow official traffic instructions.
ISLAMABAD: The Peshawar Motorway (M-1) will remain closed to all types of traffic from 11 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2026, until further notice, according to a traffic advisory.
Travelers from the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, as well as other districts, have been advised to avoid traveling on the M-1 during the closure period.
The advisory also urged the public to postpone unnecessary travel and plan their journeys according to the latest traffic instructions.
In contrast, the M-2 Lahore-Islamabad Motorway will remain open to all types of traffic, according to the advisory.
Passengers and motorists have been advised to take the traffic situation into account before starting their journeys and follow instructions issued by traffic police.
Authorities have urged travelers to remain attentive to official traffic updates and make alternative travel arrangements where necessary.
The M-1 connects Islamabad with Peshawar and is an important route for traffic traveling between the federal capital, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other areas. Its closure is expected to require travelers using the route to adjust their travel plans until further instructions are issued.
