PM Shehbaz Sharif and Bosnia and Herzegovina Presidency Chairman Denis Bećirović discuss bilateral cooperation, regional issues and stronger economic ties in New York.
NEW YORK: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Dr. Denis Bećirović in New York on Wednesday on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, with the two leaders reviewing bilateral relations and discussing regional and global issues.
During the meeting, the two leaders reviewed various aspects of Pakistan-Bosnia and Herzegovina relations, including political, economic and defense cooperation, the exchange of skilled manpower, education and cultural ties.
They also exchanged views on matters of mutual interest at the regional and global levels.
Prime Minister Shehbaz reaffirmed the importance Pakistan attaches to its historic, close and fraternal ties with Bosnia and Herzegovina. He expressed Pakistan’s desire to transform the relationship into a broader partnership centered on trade and economic cooperation.
The prime minister also reiterated Pakistan’s strong support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He emphasized that regional stability was linked to a strong, stable and prosperous Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Shehbaz congratulated Dr. Bećirović on the formal opening of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s accession negotiations with the European Union.
The prime minister said Pakistan viewed Bosnia and Herzegovina as a potential hub for trade and regional connectivity that could help provide Pakistani products with access to European and Western Balkan markets.
Dr. Bećirović appreciated Pakistan’s role in efforts to reduce tensions and normalize the situation in West Asia and the Gulf region.
He also expressed full support for Pakistan’s position regarding the illegality of keeping the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance.
The two leaders agreed to remain in close contact and work together to further strengthen bilateral relations.
They also agreed to promote exchanges of high-level visits between the two countries in the coming days as part of efforts to deepen bilateral engagement.
Pakistan and Bosnia and Herzegovina have maintained close political relations, with both sides previously emphasizing regular dialogue and cooperation in areas including trade, culture and people-to-people exchanges.
