PM Shehbaz Sharif will hold bilateral meetings and address a high-level UN meeting during his visit to New York for the 81st General Assembly session.
NEW YORK: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa and International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva in New York on Wednesday during his visit to the United States to represent Pakistan at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Media Wing, the prime minister will spend a busy day in New York, with engagements focused on bilateral meetings and participation in a high-level United Nations event.
Shehbaz is scheduled to meet Ahmad al-Sharaa, the president of Syria, for bilateral discussions. He will also hold a separate meeting with Georgieva, the managing director of the IMF.
The meetings are taking place as part of the prime minister’s engagements during his visit to New York for the UN General Assembly session. The PMO ticker did not provide further details about the agenda or issues expected to be discussed in either meeting.
Later, Shehbaz will attend and address a high-level meeting at the UN headquarters marking the 40th anniversary of the Declaration on the Right to Development.
The declaration, adopted by the UN General Assembly in 1986, concerns the right to development and its place within the broader framework of human rights. The PMO said the prime minister will participate in the high-level meeting commemorating its 40th anniversary and deliver an address.
The engagements form part of Shehbaz’s schedule in New York, where he is representing Pakistan at the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.
