NCCIA has registered a case against PTI MNA Junaid Akbar under Sections 9, 10 and 11 of the PECA Act over alleged anti-state and provocative content.
ISLAMABAD: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has registered a case against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Member of the National Assembly Junaid Akbar over alleged anti-state and provocative content shared through a TikTok account.
The first information report (FIR) was registered at the NCCIA Cyber Crime Reporting Centre in Islamabad under Sections 9, 10 and 11 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA).
According to the FIR, Junaid Akbar has been accused of promoting alleged anti-state material through the relevant TikTok account. The NCCIA said the account has approximately 39,500 followers.
The FIR further states that alleged threatening and provocative content was shared through the account. The text of the FIR says the material could create fear and unrest against the government and state institutions.
The alleged material has also been described in the FIR in the context of the definition of terrorism under state laws.
The allegations contained in the FIR have not been established by a court and remain subject to the legal process.
The NCCIA has initiated legal proceedings against Junaid Akbar under the PECA Act following registration of the case.
