Hamza Shehbaz reviews the implementation of the Prime Minister’s special fuel relief scheme and stresses better coordination and public awareness.
Former Punjab chief minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Hamza Shehbaz Sharif chaired an important meeting on the implementation and public outreach of the Prime Minister’s special fuel relief scheme.
Members of the National Assembly and PML-N ticket holders from across Pakistan attended the meeting, where participants held a detailed discussion on the implementation of the scheme and measures to improve access for eligible citizens.
The meeting was briefed on the registration process at petrol pumps, the digital system being used to provide fuel relief and practical issues being faced during implementation.
The special fuel relief scheme for low-income groups is being administered through a digital mechanism. Hamza Shehbaz stressed the need to ensure that eligible citizens receive adequate information and assistance to benefit from the scheme.
He directed public representatives to facilitate deserving people in their constituencies and help them access the relief available under the program.
“Public awareness campaigns and the facilitation process should be accelerated,” Hamza Shehbaz said, according to the meeting’s briefing.
He said the effective implementation of the scheme and ensuring access to relief for eligible citizens should remain a priority.
Hamza Shehbaz also called for improved coordination among government institutions, petrol stations and elected public representatives to address practical issues and make the process easier for beneficiaries.
He urged members of parliament and other public representatives to play an active role in ensuring that the fuel subsidy reaches eligible citizens in their respective areas.
The lawmakers participating in the meeting also presented issues being faced in their constituencies and shared suggestions regarding the implementation of the scheme.
The meeting comes as the government continues efforts to expand access to the Prime Minister’s fuel relief program. In a recent review meeting, Hamza Shehbaz said more than 2.8 million registrations had been recorded and more than 1.5 million people had benefited from the relief, while calling for measures to prevent citizens from being excluded because of a lack of information or difficulties with digital systems.
The government has also expanded the scheme to include motorcycles, Qingqi rickshaws and rickshaws up to 20 years old, while the five-liter petrol requirement for these vehicles has been removed. Eligible users can receive Rs. 500 in relief through a weekly token under the revised mechanism.
