Information Minister Attaullah Tarar reviews plans to modernise the PTV Drama and Film Academy, introduce advanced colour grading training and revamp PTV Home.
ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has directed officials to develop a comprehensive strategy for reviving the Pakistan Television (PTV) Drama and Film Academy as a modern training centre, with a focus on equipping young people with professional skills in filmmaking, drama production and digital content creation.
The minister issued the directions while chairing a high-level meeting attended by Federal Secretary for Information Ashfaq Ahmed Khalil and senior officials of the Ministry of Information. The meeting reviewed proposals for restoring the PTV Drama and Film Academy and revamping PTV Home through specialised training programmes, modern technical facilities and practical learning models.
According to the minister, Pakistan is launching a programme to provide advanced colour grading training for the first time in the country. He said professionals previously had to travel abroad to access training and modern facilities in this specialised field.
Making colour grading facilities available locally would provide the film industry and private sector with access to advanced technical training and equipment, while helping improve the quality of filmmaking in Pakistan, Tarar said.
The meeting also considered different training models proposed through private-sector partnerships. These initiatives are intended to provide practical skills to young people while creating new revenue opportunities for PTV.
Tarar directed officials to launch a transparent and practical pilot project in collaboration with the private sector to ensure that training programmes meet the requirements of the industry.
The proposed revival plan includes establishing modern classrooms and studio laboratories, installing workstations for students, appointing technical staff and trainers, and developing a comprehensive curriculum.
The academy is also expected to provide training through modern editing suites, studio laboratories and technical equipment, allowing students to gain experience in a professional working environment.
Tarar said the training programmes would combine theoretical instruction with practical assignments, project development and portfolio preparation. Priority areas would include filmmaking, drama production, editing, colour grading and digital content creation.
He added that creative projects developed by young people would be encouraged for PTV News, PTV Home and Pakistan Television, providing emerging talent with opportunities to demonstrate their skills.
The minister said the restoration of the PTV Drama and Film Academy and the revamping of PTV Home were part of the government’s commitment to promoting the media and creative industries.
He directed the relevant authorities to take all necessary steps to make the academy an effective institution that meets modern industry requirements. He also stressed the importance of ensuring its financial sustainability alongside its role as a professional training centre.
The proposed initiatives aim to strengthen Pakistan’s film and drama industries by developing a skilled workforce, improving access to modern technical facilities and expanding professional training opportunities within the country.
