Maryam Nawaz removes Jhelum Deputy Commissioner Mir Raza Ozgen after the postponement of intermediate computer science papers over arrangements for her scheduled visit.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has removed Jhelum Deputy Commissioner Mir Raza Ozgen from his post after the postponement of intermediate computer science examinations over arrangements for her scheduled visit to the district.

The controversy began when the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Rawalpindi postponed the Computer Science papers of the Intermediate Second Annual Examinations 2026 in Jhelum district. The examinations were originally scheduled for Tuesday, November 10.

According to a letter sent to the examination board, the deputy commissioner requested a change in the examination date, citing administrative, security and protocol arrangements for the chief minister’s expected visit to Jhelum and Pind Dadan Khan on the same day.

Ozgen stated that the deployment of administrative and security personnel for the visit could make it difficult to ensure the smooth and uninterrupted conduct of the examinations. He therefore requested that the board reschedule the papers to another suitable date.

The Rawalpindi board subsequently postponed both morning and evening Computer Science papers in Jhelum and announced November 30 as the revised date. The decision applied specifically to examination centres in Jhelum district.

The postponement triggered criticism on social media, with users questioning why students should face changes to their examination schedules because of arrangements for an official visit.

Taking notice of the matter, Maryam Nawaz announced on Sunday that the deputy commissioner had been removed from his position with immediate effect.

The chief minister said she had already issued clear instructions to district administrations that her visits should not cause inconvenience or disruption to the public. She reportedly described the postponement as a disregard for those instructions.

Maryam Nawaz also shared an official notification confirming Ozgen’s transfer and directing him to report to the Punjab Services and General Administration Department for further orders.

She further ordered that the postponed examinations be conducted according to their original schedule on November 10.

In a separate post on X, the chief minister criticised what she described as the district administration’s “foolishness” and “misplaced over-smartness.” Her remarks reiterated that administrative and security arrangements for official visits should not interfere with students’ examinations.

The development has brought the examination schedule and the district administration’s decision under public attention, particularly over the impact of official engagements on students’ academic commitments.
